Pre and Post-Care Instructions for IPL & PicoWay
-
For 2 weeks prior to treatment, avoid direct and excessive sun exposure and spray tanning (including self-tanner). For 7 days prior to treatment, avoid Retinol/Retin-A/Tretinoin, and chemical or physical exfoliants. Avoid caffeine and alcohol 24 hours prior.
-
Redness and slight warming of the skin are normal post-treatment. Usually this subsides within an hour. Skin will be sensitive to sunlight post-treatment. It is recommended to avoid direct sunlight and tanning.
Over the next 24-48 hours, pigmented spots will darken. In the week after treatment, these spots will begin to flake off and leave an even skin tone. After treating vascular lesions, the vein may blanch and disappear or change in color. This usually dissipates after a few days.
Pigment Removal (IPL & PicoWay) FAQs
-
IPL, or intense pulsed light, uses broad-spectrum light to target certain types of pigmentation and redness in the skin. IPL Photofacial treatments can help improve the appearance of sun damage, age spots, uneven skin tone, and redness.
-
PicoWay is an advanced picosecond laser technology that delivers ultra-short pulses of energy to target specific pigmentation. It may be used to address certain types of unwanted pigmentation and other skin concerns.
-
Depending on the treatment selected, IPL and PicoWay may help improve the appearance of sun damage, age spots, unwanted pigmentation, and redness. Emily Anne Esthetics will evaluate your skin and determine which technology is best suited to your specific concern.
-
Pigmentation isn’t one-size-fits-all, and neither is the technology used to treat it. We’ll look at your skin tone, the type and depth of discoloration, and your goals before recommending IPL, PicoWay, or another option.
-
The number of treatments varies depending on the type and amount of pigmentation being treated, your skin, and how it responds to treatment. We will recommend a personalized treatment plan.
-
Downtime depends on the technology and treatment intensity. Redness and warmth may occur, and pigmented spots treated with IPL can temporarily darken before flaking away. We’ll explain exactly what to expect for your recommended service.
-
Yes. Emily Anne Esthetics’ FNP-C can prescribe certain medications when medically appropriate as part of your personalized aesthetic treatment plan. Depending on your concerns, medical history, and treatment goals, prescription options may include tretinoin in varying strengths, oral tranexamic acid, valacyclovir, and other appropriate medications.
Prescriptions may be recommended to address specific skin concerns, support certain treatments, or help maintain your results between appointments. Your provider will evaluate your individual needs to determine whether a prescription is appropriate for you.
Prescription treatments are not one-size-fits-all and may be incorporated alongside services such as injectables, lasers, microneedling, and other aesthetic treatments.
